New Song, Allowed…
Wow ... where did summer go?!? Have a bunch of projects in process which is a good thing, but definitely makes the time fly. At supersonic speeds. We posted another new tune a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t even go on here to talk about it. Hope you haven’t missed the little guided tour of it too much.
New song is “Allowed” ... also “Aloud.” As the song’s lyric goes: “If I’m not allowed to say it out loud/where will it all go/I had hoped to watch it float/clearing the air/till it’s no longer there ...” My years as an advertising copywriter have made me pretty tuned into wordplay. But I try not to be obnoxious about it. Hopefully I succeed.
For those of you who don’t know, I was on Madison Avenue for many years, writing TV, radio and print for clients that included Seagram’s, Heinz, Jergens and Coppertone, Then at a Long Island agency, where I created campaigns for JBL and Harmon Kardon. I freelanced for Marshall Amps and Korg, too, and have a funny story about a Stones keyboard player’s endorsement ad shoot, but will save it since I’ve digressed a bit already. I also wrote for Talbots and Timberland, including their Earth Day campaigns. I remember a bunch of us hanging in there to find out which boots RIcky Martin was buying at a NYC store. And Chris Isaak in the cafeteria one time. Everyone wanted their Timbos.
Back to “Allowed” ... wasn’t as much of a reclamation project as some other tracks, had a lot in place. But producer Chris did add exactly the right elements to keep its intended sultry tone but still add depth to the track. As always, in trying to figure out what label or genre it now is, not so easy. Which can be both a strength and a weakness. Tell us what you think ... Is it indie pop, alt rock, indie dance ... What genre or combo of genres is it giving you? I’d really love to know what you think!
