Hope you had a happy Fourth!
Happy Fourth everyone! If you’re reading this after the fact, hope it was a good one. And you got to cool off a bit! .A lot of things to catch up on.
Opening reception of my solo photography exhibit at Midway Gallery in Fort Point, Boston ... EYE/I OF THE STORM: Photographs of Protest and Resistance ... was, from all accounts, a success. People pinned on their I of the Storm buttons, carried photos mounted on protest signs and, most of all, sang along with protest songs performed by singer/songwriter/guitar player par excellence Thurane. Meeting him and his sister Sundee was definitely one of the highlights of the night.
We Shall Overcome, Paved Paradise, Blowin’ in the Wind, This Land is Your Land ... just a few of the hours of protest songs through the decades Thurane sang and played. Find more of his work, including his harder-rocking originals, on thurane.com. More than a soundtrack, it was kind of the heart of the event. As music has always been at the heart of protest movements.
Working with printer and photographer Mona Miri, we are also editing a video of the exhibit, including a brief visit to my loft with commentary. Surrounded by hundreds of paintings, sculpture and books by my family, it’s sort of my origin story. Like Superman’s. Only without the kryptonite.
The show is up until July 29, 8AM-8PM, at 15 Channel Center Street, Midway Artist Studios, Fort Point, Boston. So come on down, get your buttons on, carry those signs, and be the Eye of the Storm! AND STAY TUNED FOR EYE OF THE STORM VIDEO PREMIER on miranacomstock.com
